C45 EQUIVALENT GRADES AND PROPERTIES:

There are equivalent grades of C45 steel under many international standards, and each has a unique set of characteristics. Here are some equivalent grades that are frequently used along with the associated properties:

Comparable Grades:The corresponding grade according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) standard is 1045. Its mechanical characteristics and chemical make-up are comparable to those of C45 steel.

S45C: According to the Japanese JIS G4051 standard, S45C is the comparable grade. Its mechanical characteristics and chemical make-up are comparable to those of C45 steel.

The characteristics of C45 steel, often referred to as 1.0503 or EN 10083-2 C45 steel, can change based on a number of variables, including the precise manufacturing procedure, the heat treatment, and the precise composition within the designated ranges.

Physical Properties of C45:

7.85 g/cm3 (0.284 lb/in3) is its density.

Melting Point: somewhere between 2588 and 2660 °F (1420–1460 °C).

Mechanical Characteristics (Normalised State):

Tensile Strength: 83,000–101,500 psi at 570–700 MPa

Yield Strength: 48,000–65,300 psi at 330–450 MPa

Extension: 14%–20%

Area reduction: 40%–45%

Hardness (Rockwell C): 16.3-20.4 HRC for 170-210 HB.

Thermal Characteristics

Thermal Expansion Coefficient: 10.4 x 10-6/°C (5.8 x 10-6/°F)

Thermal Conductivity: 46.6 W/mK (32.2 BTU/(hr/ft2°F)/hr)

Electrical Characteristics

Electrical Resistance: 15–17 m, 0.000015-0.000017 ohm
